Danish Certificate of Proficiency in Yachting – learn to navigate and sail your boat safely
During the theory lessons, you will learn about the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs), floating navigational marks, vessel lights and day signals, sound signals, navigation, fire prevention, safety at sea, the marine environment, and sustainability. You will also learn how to plan a longer voyage in detail.
During the practical sailing sessions, you will learn about sailboat design, rigging, and sail trim. We also practise manoeuvring in harbours and at sea. Sailing is an excellent exercise in communication and teamwork. Safety at sea is always our highest priority, and you will be trained in Man Overboard (MOB) procedures and recovery manoeuvres. Practical training takes place aboard our safe and responsive J/80 and DS37 sailboats.
At KDY Academy, we offer intensive courses designed to teach you how to operate your boat responsibly and ensure the safety of both vessel and crew in all conditions. Our goal is to provide you with the confidence and enjoyment that come from genuine seamanship and sound nautical knowledge, not simply a quick certificate. Sailing is only truly enjoyable when everyone on board feels safe and comfortable.
The Danish Certificate of Proficiency entitles you to operate Danish registered recreational vessels up to 15 metres in length with unlimited engine power.

December 2nd is reserved for the oral interview on navigation
Practical Information About the Danish Certificate of Proficiency
There are no special prerequisites for obtaining the Danish Certificate of Proficiency (Duelighedsbevis). The certificate for recreational sailors also qualifies you to continue your training on the Yachtskipper 3 course.
And you must be at least 16 years old for the certificate to qualify as a Powerboat Licence.

Exam fees
Please note the following additional fees:
- DKK 100 for the online test covering the mandatory syllabus.
- DKK 600 for the navigation interview examination.
Important
A minimum of six participants is required for each course. If the minimum number is not reached, you will be offered to join a similar course or receive a full refund of your payment.
No special requirements for joining the Certificate of the Certificate of Proficiancy course
There are no special prerequisites for attending the Danish Certificate of Proficiency (Duelighedsbevis) course.
The Certificate of Proficiency = Practical sailing test + Theory
A complete Certificate of Proficiency for recreational sailors consists of both a theoretical examination and a practical sailing examination.The Certificate of Proficiency also provides access to continue your training on the Yachtskipper 3 course.
